I cannot agree more with this article. The next wave of innovations involving breakthrough technologies is here. The way vcfunding approached the technical duediligence processes in SW-based companies is not fully applicable in the current deep-tech era, in which many companies require large investments in HW to support disruptive products. Incorporating technical experts to the DD team who may properly assess the risk behind the technology and maturity level becomes of critical importance, together with fine tuning the core aspects to review and internal processes.
Procedures need to adapt to the nature of the innovation. One-size-fits-all DD processes were valid in the previous era where SW was eating the world, but new “world eaters” have burst onto scene! And photonics is one of them!
